Sample Project: Make and Use a Citrus Classroom Cleaner
Students can rescue orange peels headed for the trash to make non-toxic cleaner that kills germs:
- tear up the peels from 4 oranges and drop them into a half-gallon jug of white vinegar
- crew on the lid and “brew” the contents for a couple of weeks until it looks pale orange
- pour this concentrated cleaner (no peels) into a spray bottle half filled with water
- use to clean hard surfaces at school: desks, sinks, counters, floors, trash & recycling bins, etc.
- Then up-cycle the empty vinegar jug into a classroom planter by cutting it in half.
